Domain Name Transfers

You may already own a domain name you wish to use with a Raindust Internet hosting account. In this case, the domain can be transferred to Raindust Internet quickly and easily. If your website is already running on another host, the transfer can be done negligable down-time (please see our guidance notes below).

Please ensure that you have read the domain transfer guidance notes before placing a domain transfer order. We are able to register names under any of the following domains. Please note that in the case of domain transfers, the one-off transfer price will be payable upon the transfer of the domain. At the time of transfer the domain will usually be part-way through its registration period. When its registration period expires, renewal will be charged at our standard registration prices. All registration prices include the relevant registry fees (these are often not included in our competitors' prices).

Notes: Although many of the domains were created for the intended use by a particular type of organisation or geographical area, there are no restrictions on registering names under any of the above domains with the following exceptions:

[1] .me.uk and .name domains can only be registered by natural persons (i.e. not by companies, organisations, agents, etc.).
[2] .eu domains can only be registered by either: a company with its registered office, central administration or principal place of business within the EU, an organisation established within the EU, or a natural person resident within the EU.
[3] .mobi domains may only be registered for websites adhering to mobile compatability style guidelines known as Switch On! Guides.
[4] .cc and .tv are the country code domains for the Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Tuvulu, respectively, however there are no restrictions on their use and they are commonly used for e-mail and television related websites.

Domain Transfer Guidance Notes

Please read this section before placing a domain transfer order with Raindust Internet.

If you would like to transfer a domain name you have already registered to Raindust Internet the process is usually speedy and trouble-free, however there are a few issues you should be aware of. The overall transfer process usually takes a few days, depending on the registrar, however there should be very little downtime as the domain transfer takes place. If downtime is a concern, make sure you upload your web site to your Raindust Internet hosting account as soon as possible, and maintain the site on your old account for a few days after the transfer.

The following instructions will help to ensure a quick and painless transfer! Don't panic if you have not followed the instructions below prior to placing the order. If the transfer fails we will contact you and give you instructions on how to resolve the issue.

The transfer process is quite different for .uk domains (.co.uk, .org.uk and .me.uk) than for other domains.

Transferring .uk domains to Raindust Internet

Before transferring a .uk domain to Raindust Internet please contact your current hosting company and request that they change the Nominet IPSTAG of the domain to HEARTINTERNET.

Please note that some hosting providers allow you to change the Nominet Tag yourself through an online control panel.

All .uk domains are registered with Nominet (the .uk domain registrar), who uses a tag system to identify the administrator of a domain. Each registration company is assigned a tag (known as an IPSTAG), and only the tag holder may alter registration details of a domain. Only the domain's owner may change the tag.

All Raindust Internet hosted domain names are registered through Heart Internet, and as such must carry their tag. Therefore the domain's tag must be changed to HEARTINTERNET before placing the order. We will then be able to complete the transfer by changing the registration information.

Transferring other domains to Raindust Internet

Before transferring a non-.uk domain to Raindust Internet please contact your current hosting provider and ask them to 'unlock' the domain so that transfer requests may be considered. In addition, your current provider may ask you to approve the transfer request to Heart Internet (our domain registration provider) either prior to the transfer being initiated or when the request arrives.

Please note that many providers allow you to unlock your domain yourself through an online control panel. Please also note that most non-.uk domains may not be transferred within 60 days of registration or transfer.

Transfers for other domain types are managed differently from .uk domains. Each domain will have listed an administration contact (usually the current hosting company). When we initiate the transfer, an email will be sent to the administration contact for the domain, asking them to confirm or reject the transfer. The administrator may then ask you to confirm the transfer, however some hosting companies require you to inform them of the transfer before it is requested.

A common issue is that many hosts 'lock' the domain, automatically rejecting any transfer requests. Therefore, it is recommended that you contact your current domain hosting provider and ask them to 'unlock' the domain if it is locked.

Transferring a domain away from Raindust Internet

If you would like to transfer your domain away from Raindust Internet, you can change the Nominet IPSTAG (.uk domains) or unlock the domain (non-.uk domains) through your account area.
